2016 Secretariat Festival PosterFestival Directions and Location: Located in historic Paris, Kentucky, just north of Lexington. Driving east or west on I-75/64, take Paris Pike Exit 113 heading north on US Highway 27/68 approximately 18 miles to downtown Paris.

Lexington Accommodations: A diverse selection of hotels can be found in Lexington with fewer choices as you exit I-75/64 north to Paris. The following hotels are convenient to all Festival events: Best Western Paris, Clarion Hotel Lexington, Griffin Gate Marriott, Ramada Lexington North Hotel, Days Inn Lexington, Fairfield Inn Lexington North, Embassy Suites Lexington, Four Points Sheraton Lexington

Festival Basics: The Festival takes place along Main Street. in the heart of downtown Paris. Admission to the Festival is free with ticketed events for horse farm tours and other special events taking place throughout the weekend. Oasis Events, 610 Main St., marks the Secretariat Festival Headquarters and primary information center. The historic location is your one-stop shop featuring the Secretariat.com Store and official Festival merchandise and also hosts the Secretariat Archive Silent Auction throughout the weekend and celebrity signings.

Most Festival venues will be on Main Street between 4th and 7th streets. Festival parking is available along High and Pleasant streets, which both run one block parallel to Main Street, as well as at several other designated locations, including:

Paris Municipal Lot on High Street, between 6th and 7th streets; First Christian Church on High Street, between 8th and 10th streets; Central Baptist Church on High Street, between 8th and 10th streets; and City Lot at the intersection of 8th and Main streets, running to High Street.

  • Secretariat Archive Auction Preview – Oasis Event Hall beginning at 3:00 p.m.
  • Big Red Beer Garden – Rooster Brew, 605 Main St. beginning at 4:30 p.m.
  • Barrel Head Craftsman Gallery – 423 Main Street, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
  • Barrel Mane-ia Auction – Oasis Event Hall bar opens at 8:00 p.m.

    • Bill Nack – acclaimed author of Secretariat: The Making of a Champion – 11:00 a.m.
    • Richard Laurin – Secretariat trainer Lucien Laurin’s grandson – cancelled
    • Otto Thorwarth – actor/jockey who portrayed Ron Turcotte in Disney’s Secretariat – 11:30 a.m.

Sunday, Sept. 18 – Explore Secretariat’s Kentucky

LEXINGTON Kentucky Horse Park, 4089 Iron Works Parkway – Open 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., featuring a wealth of equine-related attractions including Secretariat’s Triple Crown trophies and life-sized bronze statue.

UPDATES:

* The Blanton’s Limited Edition Secretariat Collector’s Bottle will be introduced at the Secretariat Festival’s Blanton’s Bourbon Tasting/Bill Nack Storytelling Saturday evening event. This exclusive offer is the first collector’s series ever presented by Blanton’s Bourbon in the United States. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on the only 73 bottles to be produced in an auction that evening. Tickets to this event are now $50 per person in keeping with the Festival’s community mindedness and accommodation for all horse racing fans.

* It is with great disappointment that the Secretariat Festival must cancel Richard Laurin’s appearances on Saturday due to a family emergency.

* We are pleased to announce Disney’s Secretariat actor/jockey Otto Thorwarth will be joining the Festival on Saturday beginning 11:30 a.m.
