Festival Basics: The 2021 Secretariat Festival takes place Oct. 15-17 in the heart of horse country in Lexington, Kentucky. The weekend offers a picture-perfect autumn backdrop where fans can gather to share the legacy of Secretariat and experience the Bluegrass region’s rich Thoroughbred heritage.
Lexington Accommodations: A diverse selection of hotels can be found in Lexington. The Embassy Suites Lexington is our preferred hotel with a limited number of rooms currently reserved for Secretariat Festival attendees. Accommodations can also be found at: Clarion Hotel Lexington, Griffin Gate Marriott, Ramada Lexington North Hotel, Fairfield Inn Lexington North, and the Four Points Sheraton Lexington. Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport, located across the road from Keeneland Race Course, is serviced by Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.
Directions: The Kentucky Horse Park is located at 4089 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington, KY 40511, a half mile east of I-75 off Iron Works Pike (Kentucky Hwy. 1973) at Exit 120. (Please use “4089 Iron Works Pike” — not “Parkway” — as the street address when using GPS and mapping software.)
Admission, Hours and Parking: All Festival activities located within the Kentucky Horse Park require a $20 admission fee (advance ticketing is $15), children under 12 admitted free. Saturday’s events are centered around the Horse Park’s International Museum of the Horse. Festival doors open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Kentucky Horse Park parking is $5 per vehicle.
Friday, Oct. 15 – Secretariat Festival Pre-Party at the Sedona Taphouse
Meet old friends and make new ones at this informal gathering starting at 5 p.m. at the brand new Sedona Taphouse, located at the Clarion Hotel on Newtown Pike. Enjoy an impressive selection of craft beers and Kentucky bourbon as well as appetizers, wood-grilled steaks and other houses specialties.
Saturday, Oct. 16 – Kentucky Horse Park/International Museum of the Horse – 4089 Iron Works Parkway, Lexington
- 8:30 a.m. – Claiborne Farm Tour departs from Visitor Center main entrance
- 9:00 a.m. – Doors open to Kentucky Horse Park, proceed to International Museum of the Horse (IMH)
- 9:15 a.m. – Secretariat Center Tour 1
- 10:00 a.m. – “The Kid is Affirmed” Fan Forum with jockey Steve Cauthen, IMH lower level
- 11:00 a.m. – Hall of Champions presentation featuring Funny Cide, Go for Gin and Point Given
- 12:30 p.m. – Secretariat Center Tour 2
- 12:45 p.m. – Spendthrift Farm Tour departs Visitor Center main entrance
- 1:00 p.m. – Autograph session with Pat Day, Mike Manganello, Don Brumfield, Sandy Hawley
- 1:15 p.m. – Big Red Monument Walking Tour
- 2:00 p.m. – “Racing ‘Day’ Memories” Fan Forum with jockey Pat Day, IMH lower level
- 3:00 p.m. – Derby winner turn-out
- 3:45 p.m. – Secretariat Center Tour 3
- 4:30 p.m. – Silent Auction closes
Sunday, Oct. 17 – Various Farm Tours (registration required)
- Godolphin Darley Stud/Old Friends Retirement Farm, 8 a.m. – Departs via motor coach from the Newtown Pike Embassy Suites with return at approximately 11:30 a.m.
- Old Friends Retirement Farm only/Groundshaker welcome, 10:30 a.m. – Attendees provide their own transportation to the farm.
- Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa, 1028 Stoney Point Road, Paris, KY, 1 p.m. – Attendees provide their own transportation to the farm. Now Sold-out
