Secretariat won the Triple Crown with these results : 2 1/2 + 2 1/2 + 31 lenghts . In all it is 36 lenghts BUT Sham distorted the results because Sham had about 8 lenghts in advance on the group of other horses SO the 2 1/2 of Secretariat is stronger than it appear !! In realty Secretariat won in these 3 races by about 50 lenghts if we exclude Sham !!!!
Sham was FANTASTIC ( It must be constantly clarified ! ) BUT was extremely unlucky to appear at the same time than Secretariat = Demonstration made !!

Just voted for the Vox Populi Award, realized I had not been at this site for a while, then read of Penny's Virginia interment.

Dear Penny,
I miss you. You gave so much to this world of thoroughbreds that so many of us breathe on a daily basis. What I miss the most is your spunk and spirit.
Thinking of you-and smiling.

I remember watching him win the Derby, for the first time in my life my father asked me...if I wanted to watch the Preakness and the Belmont with him too...we did. He asked me after the Derby who to watch..
(My opinion!!!) it was then I told him Secretariat for the crown this year...I could tell by his eye when he looked at the camera...he loved it! He wasn't afraid...he knew and he told me he knew, it was all his that year. I consider him the greatest racehorse that ever graced a track not only because of the crown....but because of HOW he showed us it belonged to him...
The anniversary of his passing has recently come and gone and it hurts my heart just as much on this day as it did on the day he was laid to rest. He was always the greatest after the crown, at least in my heart...and I was one of the true believers that Man O' War held that righteous title..but on one day on May 9 of 1973..the Lord graced my heart and soul to a colt named Secretariat and forever there it shall remain..Love you Big Red...

Remembering Secretariat who passed away 29 years ago on October 4, 1989. The greatest thoroughbred race horse of all time. He was an athlete, but he was also intelligent and unmistakably he was aware of his surroundings. His greatness was not just defined by 'what' he did, but also by 'how' he did it. The sum of all these things is what sets Secretariat apart from all the rest.
I meant to submit this post on October 4th to commemorate his passing, but time got away from me. I have been caring for a family member who had surgery in late September. This fact also kept me from attending the Secretariat Festival. I hope everyone had a great time there this past weekend. A big thank you to the Chenery family members and to Secretariat.com for making it happen every year.

Tim Dean, I forgot to mention - I have one of Secretariat's shoes and also a lock of his mane. Bobby Anderson gave them to me when I was a regular visitor to the farm.

Hello Tim Dean, I appreciate your love and devotion to Secretariat but I have to correct you - I am the biggest Secretariat fan who ever lived. I went to visit him several times a week until his death in 1989 and I still cry when I think of him. Tell ya what - we will both claim the title of "biggest fan". He sure was something, wasn't he? There will never be another like him. Ever.

Preakness was superb
Kentucky was sublim
Belmont was surrealist
The weakness of mister Secretariat ? Preakness.
Until now it is 45 years for standing-up records and any horse is able do that . Secretariat is the Louis Cyr of horserace .

I could write a book, there is so much to say about Penny Chenery and her influence on thoroughbred horse racing. But this "Guestbook" is not meant for writing a book. So just let me say that we all miss you, and that we all loved you, and that I can't believe it's been a year today since your passing. Like Secretariat, you were a one-of-a-kind! I will watch the Secretariat movie (again) tonight in your honor. Please enjoy the peace that you so richly deserve.

My name is Tim Dean and I am without ANY DOUBT the # (1) SECRETARIAT'S FAN EVER to be born...I feel in love with "BIG RED" at the early age of 13 yrs old, that was in 1973 when SECRETARIAT was in his TRIPLE CROWN Campaign... I have been a "BIG RED " SECRETARIAT researcher now for some time...
Now, to my next issue...I have been doing extensive research on the progeny/off spring of SECRETARIAT... SECRETARIAT'S first foal was a thoroughbred Appaloosa named FIRST SECRETARY who foaled on November 15, 1974... Also, to me, SECRETARIAT WAS/IS THE (BEST) thoroughbred racehorse that's (EVER) LIVED OR THAT WILL (EVER) BE FOALED (BORN) BAR NONE !!! Lastly, for ALL those SECRETARIAT FANS reading this, I encourage YOU to find out and research all you can about "BIG RED " SECRETARIAT...I want to say hello to Secretariat.com and Ronnie Turcotte the BEST JOCKEY EVER TO BE BORN in my opinion...
