Ron Turcotte Injured in Accident, Resting Comfortably
GRAND FALLS, N.B. (March 10, 2015) – Leonard Lusky, spokesman for the Turcotte family, said that Hall of Fame jockey Ron Turcotte is resting comfortably at an area hospital, following a one-vehicle car accident on Monday.
Turcotte suffered a fracture in each leg when the van he was driving hit an icy patch on a road near his home in New Brunswick and flipped on its side. A family friend was a passenger in the vehicle and suffered minor injuries.
Lusky said that Mr. Turcotte is in good spirits and still has his sense of humor, noting that the jockey who rode Secretariat throughout his legendary 1973 Triple Crown campaign, asked attending physician for one blue cast and one white cast, the renown silk colors of Secretariat’s Meadow Stable.
3/15/15 – Mr. Turcotte continues on the road to recovery and wishes to convey his gratitude for the outpouring of support he has received from fans and friends in the racing community. Although he remains hospitalized, he does have access to his laptop during his recuperation and we encourage all those concerned to express their best wishes by submitting a personal message through the website’s on-line public Guestbook Page which Ron enjoys reading on a regular basis.
4/2/15 – As he nears the one month mark from his driving accident, Ron Turcotte’s recuperation is going well in his local hospital in New Brunswick, Canada. He hopes to be released soon to begin physical therapy and continue his recovery from home. Ron would like to expressly share how touched and humbled he is by the countless number of condolences and messages of support he has received from friends and fans. He remains upbeat and spirited (“Turcotte Tough” as he says), although he does miss catching up on daily racing news and information regarding potential Kentucky Derby contenders. And yes, he is indeed still sporting the blue and white casts representing the colors of the Meadow Stable!
4/21/15 – We are delighted to announce Ron Turcotte has been released from his local New Brunswick hospital to continue his recovery and physical therapy from the comforts of home. His broken legs from the early March auto accident appear to be mending in good order and his casts are expected to be removed in the next two weeks. Ron is enjoying the company of his family and friends and catching up on world affairs and current racing news. For the Kentucky Derby, he says “the three favorites (American Pharoah, Dortmund, and Carpe Diem) all look tough and it sure doesn’t hurt that each is a descendant of Secretariat!”
Further information about Mr. Turcotte’s condition will be released through Secretariat.com as it becomes available.
