Description

Here they are, the big three of Thoroughbred collectibles:

May 5, 1973 Kentucky Derby, Churchill Downs

May 19, 1973, Preakness Stakes, Pimlico

June 9, 1973 Belmont Stakes, Belmont Park

An incredible find! These special edition mint condition programs document the greatest (and fastest) racing performances in the Triple Crown. Note: In 1973, an enterprising individual purchased 125 pristine programs from each of the Secretariat’s Triple Crown races, to form commemorative collector sets. Then leading up to the landmark 100th Run for the Roses, they then collaborated with a Louisville,Kentucky-based company to have each set embellished with a the newly created USPS 10 cent horse racing stamp then postmarked “First Day of Issue” on May 4, 1974, which conveniently happened to be Derby Day! Only these 125 mint condition sets contained the special stamp and postmark, making them a further rarity in the horse racing memorabilia sector.

Whether purchased out of sentiment or as an investment, these collectible treasures are sure to please. Please inquire about regular Triple Crown program sets and program sets available signed by jockey Ron Turcotte. Preakness and Belmont programs not sold separately.

We also currently have one very special set of mint condition 1973 Triple Crown programs, with each program in the set containing the original and incredibly rare autograph of Secretariat’s trainer Lucien Laurin as well as that of Hall of Fame jockey Ron Turcotte.

Lucien Laurin died in 2000 at the age 88, and therefore missed many of the Meadow Stable team reunion appearances and events over the years. His original signature is a true rarity and nearly impossible to find. This particular trio of programs may be the only set in existence in such pristine condition that contains the signatures of both these luminary figures in racing history. The program set is accompanied by a letter of authenticity documenting their rich provenance. Please contact us for more information and pricing.
