Secretariat 25th Anniversary Silver Ltd. Edition Glasses
Price range: $140.00 through $395.00
Description
In 1998, in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of Secretariat’s 1973 record-breaking Triple Crown, a series of commemorative glasses was produced representing the Meadow Stable champion’s victories in the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes. The series is distinctive in that all three glasses in the set were created in a unique process where genuine silver was applied to each design. Limited to only 1000 individual pieces of each design, the Secretariat 25th Anniversary Silver Limited Edition series was an instant hit with collectors and quickly sold out; they are rarely made available on the secondary market and Secretariat.com is delighted to offer a small quantity of each glass.
The Kentucky Derby and Preakness designs were produced as special reproductions of the original and highly collectible Churchill Downs mint julep and Pimlico black-eyed Susan glasses, which were officially released by the respective racetracks in 1973 and show the previous winners on the reverse. As there was no event glass for the Belmont Stakes in 1973, the 25th anniversary release is an original design crafted to incorporate Secretariat’s iconic 31-length victory photo by New York Racing Association photographer Bob Coglianese.
Each glass in the series is individually hand-numbered and comes with its own corresponding embossed insignia certificate of authenticity, with the Derby and Preakness certificates offering a facsimile signature of Secretariat’s owner Penny Chenery (formerly Tweedy), and the Belmont certificate featuring the 25th anniversary logo. Glasses are available individually, or purchase all three and save – either way it is a wonderful opportunity to obtain one or more of these coveted collectible keepsakes. Limited quantities, available on a first-come basis.
