Description

The Ruffian print, titled “Remembering Ruffian” (#1/600), features the profiled portrait of the striking near-black Locust Hill Farm filly, and additionally depicts her parading with jockey Jacinto Vasquez aboard. Part of a matched set with “Remembering Secretariat” (#1/600), this impressive pairing is even more remarkable considering each print was published and released individually in its own separate limited edition. Hand-titled, numbered and signed by the artist and elegantly displayed within a double-matted gold-edged wood framing measuring approximately 29″ x 24.5” in total.

The late Anthony Alonso was internationally acclaimed for his fine art paintings and prints of famous Thoroughbreds. A graduate of New York City’s High School of Music & Art in Manhattan and Pratt Institute of Brooklyn, Alonso has been dubbed the “Painter of Champions.” His work has been featured in numerous private and public collections and includes retrospective exhibitions at the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, New York and the Kentucky Derby Museum in Louisville, Kentucky. Alonso’s work also has been featured by the Ontario Jockey Club of Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Canada and Arlington Park in Illinois, and he was the official artist for the 1986 Breeders’ Cup held at Santa Anita Park in California.
