Description

In 1987, Reeves released his second limited-edition print of Secretariat, this time depicting the Triple Crown champion in retirement at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky. Secretariat is contrasted against a verdant background epitomizing springtime in the Bluegrass. The composition of the print was a bit of a departure from Reeves’ typical conformational style and features Secretariat in a peaceful pose nearing the end of his breeding career. The edition was released following the announcement of Secretariat’s famed daughter Lady’s Secret being selected 1986 Horse of the Year. The left lower corner of the print features a detailed remarque of the talented gray mare, affectionately nicknamed the “Iron Lady,” with Hall of Fame jockey Pat Day aboard.

The very scarce and long sold out print measures approximately 24″ x 26″ and was published by the Racing Scene Gallery in a total edition of 850 pieces, hand-numbered and signed by the artist. What makes this particular print so special is that it has been additionally autographed by Day as well as Secretariat’s beloved jockey Ron Turcotte. To our knowledge, this is one of only two prints in the edition in existence to feature the additional signatures of these two illustrious riders.
