Secretariat Ltd. Edition Bronze by Rene Williams
Description
Artist Rene Williams’ distinctive style depicts the essence of equine motion manifested in sculptures of 70s era champions including Triple Crown winners Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed, as well as the great filly champion Ruffian.
Immediately following the 1973 Triple Crown, Ms. Williams paid tribute to Secretariat in bronze form, depicting the Meadow Stable colt with Ron Turcotte aboard and capturing the elegance and extension of the champion’s amazing stride. Secretariat’s owner Penny Chenery so admired the impressionistic style of Williams’ portrayal of her famous colt that a piece from this scarce edition was a permanent fixture in her own private residence. The exquisite bronze was limited to a total of 40 pieces in the long-sold out edition and this particular bronze represents one of the few pieces to become available on the secondary market (the last being publicly auctioned in 2017, and fetching $7,332.) Measures approximately 17” in length along its black marble base and 10” tall.
