Description

Secretariat.com is delighted to offer a very limited inventory of William (Bill) Nack’s definitive book, “Secretariat: The Making of a Champion.”

In 1973, Secretariat, recognized as one of the greatest Thoroughbreds in horse racing history, captured the imagination of the country when he won the Triple Crown, then became one of the most famous and celebrated figures of the 20th century that transcended the sport itself. This is the revered narrative that propelled Nack’s burgeoning career as an unparalleled author and biographer.

This acclaimed book chronicles the spectacular journey of Secretariat beginning with his illustrious heritage and birth, then follows the champion throughout his remarkable racing performances, and eventually into his retirement and heralded arrival at Claiborne Farm to launch his breeding career. Each of Secretariat’s legendary record-breaking Triple Crown races is covered in detail, culminating with his historic feat of winning the Belmont Stakes by an astounding 31 lengths.

The story of Secretariat as told by Nack continues to be a literary classic more than 50 years after its initial publication. It quickly became a national bestseller and ultimately inspired the making of the 2010 Walt Disney Studios feature film “Secretariat” starring Diane Lane in the role of Secretariat’s owner Penny Chenery.

We are delighted to offer the book in a variety of choices (each long sold-out) ranging from its original hardcover first edition to its most contemporary printing. Our offerings include:
