Original 1973 Kentucky Derby Program
$400.00
Description
Our original 1973 Kentucky Derby track programs have remained preserved in this fabulous mint condition for more than five decades. They are virtually perfect… just like Secretariat’s performance in the Run for the Roses. Unlike offerings from others who sell programs with stained or torn pages, our archival collection of Derby programs are untouched, never opened, and still stiff from their packing in the original carton casing.
Within the program you will find the distinctive green page of the 1973 Derby Field in crisp, vibrant condition. The information therein contains the entrant information of that incredibly talented Derby field including Secretariat’s archrival Sham and future three-time Horse of the Year Forego. Of course racing fans know Big Red emerged victorious in the 1973 Kentucky Derby, establishing a new track record by running the mile and a quarter race in 1:59 2/5. And some of you probably know that he ran the race in successively faster quarter mile increments on his way to setting that record which still stands unmatched — almost a half century later. But to put it into proper perspective, we are saying that of all the horses who ever ran the Derby in the last 149 years (and there have been more than 1900 entrants), Secretariat ran it the fastest in his unique and beautiful way. And now you can claim your own piece of this unprecedented racing history documenting that magical day at Churchill Downs.
We offer these programs exactly as they were issued on May 5, 1973 at Churchill Downs in their original pristine condition, or for those who prefer your memorabilia autographed, a select few programs may be available with the option of being hand-signed by Secretariat’s Hall of Fame jockey Ron Turcotte, please inquire upon purchase.
