Description
To own an uncashed $2.00 pari-mutuel ticket from perhaps the most memorable performance by the most famous horse in the sport of Thoroughbred racing is a spectacular thrill in itself. To own it autographed by the three illustrious figures comprising the horse’s main connections catapults this archival memento into a whole different stratosphere.
For a limited time only, we are proud to make this singular Secretariat 1973 Belmont Stakes winning ticket available for purchase during the holidays. The June 9, 1973 Belmont Stakes marked the event when Secretariat literally broke out of the starting and ran into racing legend. His electrifying 31-length victory in the world record time of 2:24 for the 1 1/2 mile race to capture the Triple Crown remains one of the greatest moments in all of American sports. This particular ticket contains the hand-signed signatures of Secretariat’s late owner Penny Chenery (then Tweedy), late trainer Lucien Laurin, and esteemed/beloved jockey Ron Turcotte — an unparalleled addition from this luminary trio, each being a National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame inductee in their own right.
This historic winning ticket, likely one of the very few to exist signed by all three main members of the Meadow Stable team, documents Secretariat’s entry number (2), race (8th) along with the date and Belmont Park venue printed on the New York Racing Association’s distinctive blue trimmed tote-ticket stock. The ticket is in excellent condition considering it’s been around for more than a half-century, but does show slight handling wear and moderate discoloration typical for its age. The ticket and associated signatures have been PSA certified for authenticity and arrives encased in its own protective display.
