1973 Canadian International Winning Pari-Mutuel Ticket
$350.00
Original Uncashed Secretariat Pari-Mutuel Ticket
Description
This is it… the winning ticket from Secretariat’s last race in the Canadian International from Woodbine Racetrack. These mint condition uncashed $2.00 tickets represent the final glorious chapter in Secretariat’s amazing racing career. The Canadian International was perceived as a bit of a homecoming for Secretariat’s Canadian-born trainer Lucien Laurin and jockey Ron Turcotte. And the management at Woodbine recognized the historical significance of the event — so much so that they created a special tote ticket that featured the words “Big red” in honor of the Meadow Stable champion. In a cruel twist of racing bureaucracy, Turcotte would be forced to sit out the race serving a brief suspension for a prior infraction. He was replaced by the talented future Hall of Famer Eddie Maple, another Meadow Stable regular.
The pair did not disappoint, taking the lead midway through the race and drawing off to win by 6 1/2 lengths over a very talented field of older turf horses. As the heavy wagering favorite, Secretariat paid only .40 to win the race but these uncashed pristine condition tickets are worth significantly more now, over a half century later. Each two-tone blue vintage ticket shows the entry information of date (Oct. 28, 1973), race (8th), and program number (12) for Secretariat. A must-have for the sports collector seeking original Secretariat memorabilia… but only while our limited quantities last.
