Description
Original Secretariat Triple Crown memorabilia continues to be among the most sought-after items in the sports collectible world, and we are proud to present a very limited quantity of original and rare 1973 Preakness Stakes pari-mutuel $2 denomination winning tickets. The source of these very special winning tickets is a story unto itself as they originate from the private collection of “Mr. Preakness” himself — Chick Lang, the visionary general manager of Pimlico who served the racetrack for over 27 years until his retirement in 1987. Lang, upon witnessing the greatness of Secretariat first-hand in the memorable race had the foresight to save a small group of tickets for posterity following their pay-off redemption.
On that historic Preakness day of 1973, the pay-off value for each winning ticket was minimal, but times have certainly changed. With the rarity of any Secretariat winning pari-mutuel ticket from one of his record-breaking Triple Crown races, the value of these highly sought-after collectibles continues to dramatically climb. Now nearly impossible to find, especially in their complete issued condition without the commonly seen tears or torn corners.
Each vintage original gold $2 winning ticket displays the date (May 19, 1973), race (8th), and program entry number (3) for Secretariat. Tickets are in near mint condition save for the markings on the reverse side denoting their status as “cashed” by the teller. This extremely limited offering is for the most discriminating Secretariat memorabilia enthusiast. With their official designation as an original archival item, Preakness tickets will arrive in their own protective acrylic display. Tickets may be available hand-signed by Secretariat’s Hall of Fame jockey, Ron Turcotte, please inquire upon purchase. An extremely limited offering available on a first-come basis.
