“Sweet Secretariat” Photo – Arlington Park

Secretariat’s luminary owner Penny Chenery called this simple black and white photo of her 1973 Triple Crown champion one of “the sweetest” ever taken. Emanating from a collection of unpublished original news photo negatives, the touching image captures Secretariat enjoying a nibble of grass in the morning sun in the quiet sanctuary of his favorite backside grazing area a few days prior to the June 30, 1973 Arlington Invitational — a race he would win handily win by nine lengths. A poignant piece of racing history revealing Secretariat in a moment of calm before his competitive storm in the Chicago race. Available in your choice of 8″ x 12″ or large format 16″ x 24″ sizing. Photo may be available hand-signed by the jockey Ron Turcotte, please inquire upon purchase.
