Bay Shore – Limited St. Patrick’s Edition

Description

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day while honoring this same celebration from 1973 when Secretariat made his seasonal debut as a three-year old in the Bay Shore Stakes at Aqueduct. The Meadow Racing Stable selected the seven furlong test for their chestnut champion and the New York Racing Association helped promote the race and the holiday with a special edition program featuring the stakes entries page printed in green. Secretariat, with jockey Ron Turcotte aboard, made their own luck that day, by overcoming a sloppy track and eventful trip to easily win by 4 1/2 lengths, the first step on the way to eventual Triple Crown glory.

We pay tribute to this historic St. Patrick’s Day performance with a limited edition version of the official winner’s circle photo and a bonus replica mini-program of the race. The special 12″ x 12″ composite photo features Secretariat with jockey Ron Turcotte aboard in action as he strides out toward the finish line at the top and the presentation to the rest of the team – trainer Lucien Laurin, Meadow Farm secretary Elizabeth Ham, groom Eddie Sweat, exercise rider Charlie Davis, and of course owner Penny Chenery appropriately clad in green. It is interesting to note that this is one of the few photos showing Secretariat with his tail tied up as a measure to minimize mud-caking during the race.

The companion mini-program measures a diminutive 5.5″ yet perfectly replicates the day’s official program and printed green interior. Besides the detailed particulars of each entrant in the race, there is a wealth of interesting information displayed within including the cumulative stakes history and results, the leading jockeys and trainers during the 1973 meet, and much more.

The special St. Patrick’s Day Bay Shore Set of photo and mini-program is limited to a total edition of 100 individually numbered sets. The photo is also available with the added option of being uniquely hand-signed in kelly green by Ron Turcotte. (Please allow 3 weeks for delivery of signed photos)
