“Lonely at the Top” Panoramic Photo

Description

The rare air breathed only at the pinnacle of success is on display here as Secretariat with jockey Ron Turcotte aboard is captured accelerating out of the wide sweep of the far turn of Belmont Park and into the homestretch in the 1973 Belmont Stakes. The detailed panoramic photo from the New York Racing Association archives features the talented Meadow Stable colt isolated on the lead amidst the expansive backdrop of “Big Sandy,” offering a glimpse of why the third jewel in the Triple Crown is called “The Test of the Champion.”

With the field fading into the distance, surrendering to Secretariat’s ever-expanding lead which would ultimately reach a record-breaking 31 lengths, the vintage black and white image captures the champ as he approaches the striped quarter pole, 1/4 mile from the finish of the contest, rounding the far turn with all four feet off the ground and into racing legend.

Offered exclusively on Secretariat.com in the mini-panoramic 5″ x 15″ size or 12″ x 36″ collectors edition, and may be available with the premium option of being hand-signed by Secretariat’s jockey Ron Turcotte, please inquire upon purchase.
