Description
The newest photo release in the Jim Gaffney photo collection is this charming image featuring a young and handsome Secretariat early in the Meadow Stable colt’s juvenile season. The charming image captures Secretariat with Gaffney aboard during the summer of 1972 on Belmont Park backside as the future champion is being led to the track for a morning gallop. The scarcely seen photo is one of the very few to show groom Mordecai Williams who handled the day-to-day duties of Big Red during the early stages of the colt’s legendary career. Just behind and to the left of Secretariat is Meadow stablemate Riva Ridge, the winner of both the 1972 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes, and a dual champion in his own right.
The historic photo measures 5” x 7” and emanates from the personal collection of Gaffney with each piece being containing the original signature of the late exercise rider and and mounted within its own ready-to-frame archival matting. Extremely limited availability, order this diminutive photographic treasure while quantities last.
