Belmont Stakes Glory Archival Color Photo

Description

This breathtaking rare color view of Secretariat and jockey Ron Turcotte as they near wire in the 1973 Belmont Stakes is an image to behold.

As the Belmont Stakes approached in the early summer of 1973, the nation held its collective breath hoping for Secretariat’s coronation as the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years. Known as “The Test of the Champion,” the Belmont’s daunting 1 1/2-mile distance has broken many a heart (of both the horses and the the humans who cheer them on) that marks the culmination of the Triple Crown trail. But then again, Secretariat had an extraordinary heart and in one of the greatest performances in sports history, Secretariat demonstrated it as no other, delivering a mind-boggling 31-length victory in world record-breaking time.

Belmont Glory features Secretariat in deep stretch in the 1973 Belmont Stakes, 31 lengths ahead of the hopelessly beaten field. In vivid color, the image captures the late afternoon sun highlighting the copper flame of Big Red’s mane and tail. Turcotte, knowing he is a part of history in the making, takes a quick glimpse to his left at the infield electronic clock that will ultimately flash 2:24, the record-breaking time that has yet to be equaled. It is a pure and powerful moment, bearing testament to a feat of greatness and a must-have for any Secretariat fan!

Printed on the highest quality archival stock, the image may be available with the option of being hand-signed by Mr. Turcotte, please inquire upon purchase. Available in 8″ x 10″; 11″ x 14″; 16″ x 20″ – Larger sizes offered by special request.
