Description
Few photos capture the essence of Secretariat’s legacy better than this image of the legendary champion and the pride and joy he brought to his Meadow Stable team and admirers the world over.
The New York Racing Association photo documents the walk to the winner’s circle at Belmont Park immediately following Secretariat’s victory in the Oct. 8, 1973 Man o’ War Stakes. Marking Big Red’s first racing venture on grass, the 1 1/2 mile race included a crackerjack field of accomplished older, seasoned stakes horses. Not only did Secretariat defeat his elders, he established a new turf course record of 2:24 4/5 in the process, providing more proof of his immense talent and versatility over any surface.
The historic photo captures Secretariat with jockey Ron Turcotte triumphantly being led to the winner’s circle by his beaming owner Penny Chenery amidst the fanfare from the cheering grandstand crowd. Just behind the trio, Secretariat’s groom Eddie Sweat and Penny’s husband Jack Tweedy share in the winner’s walk. Available in 8″ x 10″ sizing with larger sizes available upon special request. Photo may be available with the original signature of Ron Turcotte and set within your choice of hardwood frame, please inquire for more information.
