’73 Triple Crown Commemorative Poster
$75.00
From the personal collection of Ron Turcotte
Description
This incredibly scarce commemorative poster was designed and published by Secretariat’s legendary jockey Ron Turcotte immediately following the 1973 racing season. The spectacular print served as his own personal tribute to the famed chestnut champion. The vintage poster contains nearly every important element of Big Red’s record-breaking Triple Crown sweep in an aggregated collection of historic imagery from the time period. The Triple Crown’s trio of racing jewels — the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, Preakness at Pimlico, and Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park — are each well represented in the impressive piece with finish line photos, official race charts and winner’s circle imagery.
Along with Mr. Turcotte, the array of featured photos contains nearly all of the key players representing the Meadow Stable — owner Penny Chenery (then Tweedy), her father Christopher T. Chenery, trainer Lucien Laurin, as well as the rest of the team instrumental in Secretariat’s unparalleled success on and off the track, including groom Eddie Sweat, exercise rider Charlie Davis, Claiborne Farm’s Seth Hancock, Meadow Farm manager Howard Gentry and trusted secretary Elizabeth Ham, who is credited with naming Secretariat. Principal family members are also represented, including Penny’s sister Margaret Carmichael, brother Hollis Chenery and husband Jack Tweedy.
The historic and informative poster also features imagery of each of the three classic race trophies as well as the coveted Triple Crown trophy itself — along with its presentation by New York Gov. Nelson Rockefeller to the winning connections following the Belmont Stakes. Each original print emanating from Mr. Turcotte’s own private collection measures approximately 29” x 22” and includes his authentic hand-signed autograph. The perfect addition to any racing memorabilia collection!
