This rare original program for the Sept. 30, 1967 Woodward Stakes documents one of Thoroughbred racing’s most famous and highly anticipated contests. Nicknamed “The Race of the Century” for good reason, the prestigious race would feature three of the sport’s most famed champions: Buckpasser, Damascus, and Dr. Fager. This meant the prestigious Stakes race (held at Aqueduct Park that year while Belmont Park was being renovated) had three future Hall of Famers that included one reigning Horse of the Year (Buckpasser, 1966) and two eventual Horses of the Year (Damascus, 1967 and Dr. Fager, 1968) — who, between them, would capture an amazing 12 championships, set two world records, and equal or break 11 track records, six of which have yet to be broken! (Damascus would handily win the race by 10 lengths with Buckpasser settling for second by a 1/2 length over Dr. Fager.)

What makes this specific program particularly special is its unparalleled gem mint condition. With its vibrant color cover and unmarked crisp and pristine interior pages, the program appears as if it were printed yesterday. We have never seen another whose condition even remotely compares. A wonderful opportunity to own an important and amazing piece of racing history! Please inquire for pricing.
