Description

The August 16, 1972 Sanford Stakes at Saratoga Race Course marked Secretariat’s third career win and first stakes victory, extending his winning streak in fine form as he cruised to a three-length victory.

With jockey Ron Turcotte aboard, the mighty chestnut is shown in the New York Racing Association composite photo wearing number “5,” and is joined in the winner’s circle for the first time by owner Penny Chenery and trainer Lucien Laurin. Other figures featured include groom Mordecai Williams holding Secretariat, and Peter Sanford Wood makes the trophy presentation.

It is interesting to note that the Sanford Stakes would be Secretariat’s only race where he was not the betting favorite, with that distinction going to second place finisher Linda’s Chief. Photo may be available with the option of being hand-signed by Ron Turcotte, please inquire upon purchase. Measures 8″ x 10″ with larger sizes available by special request.
